# RSS Feed

An RSS feed is a web feed format that automatically delivers updated content from websites you follow, without checking them by hand.

RSS has been around since the late '90s, and it's still one of the most underused tools in social media. While everyone's manually copying links and writing promo posts by hand, RSS quietly automates the whole thing.

An RSS feed is a standardized file that websites update whenever new content is published. Blog posts, podcast episodes, news articles, YouTube videos — if a site has an RSS feed (most do), you can subscribe to it and get automatic updates. No algorithms filtering what you see. No missed posts. Just a clean, chronological stream of new content.

## How RSS Connects to Social Media

The real power of RSS for social media managers is automation. You [connect a feed to your scheduling tool](https://www.postpone.app/integrations/rss) and set up rules: every time a new item appears in the feed, a social post is drafted or published automatically. The post can pull in the title, link, featured image, and a snippet of text.

This is huge if you manage content for a brand that publishes regularly. A company blog with three posts a week means three social promotions you don't have to create manually. Multiply that across platforms and you're saving hours every month.

RSS also works great for content curation. Subscribe to industry blogs, competitor feeds, or news sources. When something relevant drops, your tool can flag it or auto-queue a share with your commentary added.

## Setting It Up

Most blogs and news sites expose their RSS feed at `/feed` or `/rss`. WordPress sites almost always have one. YouTube channels have RSS feeds too — you just need the channel ID.

Once you have the feed URL, plug it into your automation tool. Set the format for auto-generated posts (headline + link, or something more custom). Choose which platforms to publish to. Decide whether posts go live immediately or land in a queue for review.

Start with your own content feeds first. Automating the promotion of your own blog posts and podcast episodes is the safest and highest-value use case. Once that's running smoothly, add third-party feeds for curation.

**Example**

You connect your company blog's RSS feed to your scheduling tool. Every time a new article publishes, a social post promoting it is automatically created and queued across Twitter, LinkedIn, and Reddit.

## **Why It Matters**

RSS feeds turn manual content sharing into an automated pipeline. Instead of remembering to promote every blog post or news update, the feed triggers posts for you. It's especially powerful for brands that publish frequently and want every piece of content distributed without extra effort.
