# Crosspost

A crosspost is the same piece of content shared across multiple social media platforms or communities, either at once or adapted for each audience.

Cross-posting means taking content from one platform and sharing it on others. On Reddit specifically, "crosspost" is a built-in feature — you can share a post from one subreddit to another with attribution to the original.

In the broader social media context, cross-posting is a content distribution strategy.

## Cross-Posting vs. Repurposing

There's an important distinction. **Cross-posting** is sharing the same (or very similar) content across platforms. **Repurposing** is adapting the core idea into a native format for each platform.

Straight cross-posting — copying and pasting the exact same text and image everywhere — usually underperforms. Each platform has different norms, formats, and audience expectations. A LinkedIn post with paragraphs and professional tone looks out of place on Twitter. A TikTok video with a watermark gets suppressed on Instagram.

The sweet spot is repurposing: same idea, different execution. Your blog post becomes a Twitter thread, a LinkedIn carousel, an Instagram quote graphic, and a Reddit discussion post.

## Reddit Cross-Posting

[Reddit's crosspost feature](https://www.postpone.app/blog/crossposting-reddit) is unique. When you crosspost on Reddit, the original post is embedded with a link back to the source community. This gives credit, drives traffic to the original subreddit, and is generally viewed positively by moderators — unlike reposting without attribution, which is frowned upon.

Not all subreddits allow crossposts. Always check the rules before attempting it.

## Making Cross-Posting Work

**Adapt the format.** Vertical video for TikTok and Reels. Square or horizontal for LinkedIn. Text-heavy for Twitter and Reddit. Each platform has a native format — use it.

**Adjust the tone.** LinkedIn is professional. Twitter is punchy and casual. Reddit is conversational and skeptical of marketing language. Write for each audience.

**Stagger your timing.** Don't post everywhere simultaneously. Space it out over a few days so you don't flood people who follow you on multiple platforms.

**Remove watermarks.** Instagram's algorithm suppresses videos with TikTok watermarks. Always save clean versions for cross-platform use.

**Example**

You write a LinkedIn post about hiring mistakes that gets 50,000 impressions. You adapt it into a Twitter/X thread, an Instagram carousel, and a Reddit text post in r/startups. Same core idea, four platforms, 120,000 total impressions — without creating anything from scratch.

## **Why It Matters**

Most people don't follow you on every platform. Cross-posting multiplies your reach without multiplying your workload. Done well, one piece of content can fuel an entire week across platforms. Done poorly — posting the exact same thing everywhere — it performs badly and comes off as lazy.
