# Content Repurposing

Content repurposing is adapting existing content into new formats to reach different audiences across multiple platforms.

The biggest mistake in social media is treating every platform as a separate content factory. You don't need 30 original ideas a week. You need five good ones adapted for six platforms.

That's content repurposing. Take something that already works and reshape it for a different audience, format, or platform. It's not lazy — it's efficient. Most of your followers on Instagram never see your LinkedIn posts. The overlap between your YouTube subscribers and your Reddit audience is probably close to zero.

## Repurposing vs. Cross-Posting

Cross-posting means copying the same post everywhere. Repurposing means adapting it. The difference matters. A LinkedIn article pasted directly into a Reddit thread will bomb. But that same article's core insight, rewritten as a casual story with Reddit-appropriate tone, could hit the front page.

Each platform has its own format, length, and culture. Repurposing respects those differences while keeping the core message intact.

## The Repurposing Chain

Start with your longest-form content — a blog post, podcast episode, or video. Then break it down:

- **Long-form → Short-form**: Pull key quotes, stats, or tips for Twitter/X and Threads
- **Video → Clips**: Cut 30-60 second highlights for TikTok, Reels, and YouTube Shorts
- **Written → Visual**: Turn a list post into a carousel for Instagram or LinkedIn
- **Discussion → Thread**: Expand one point into a detailed Twitter or Reddit thread

Work from big to small. It's much easier to compress a 2,000-word post into a 280-character tweet than to expand a tweet into a blog post.

## Making Repurposing Sustainable

Batch your repurposing. When you finish a blog post or video, immediately create all the derivative pieces in one sitting. If you wait, you'll forget or lose momentum.

Keep a running list of your best-performing content. These are your top repurposing candidates. A post that crushed it on LinkedIn six months ago deserves a second life as an Instagram carousel or TikTok explainer.

Track which formats perform best on each platform. Over time, you'll build a playbook: "YouTube videos become LinkedIn carousels and Reddit threads." That playbook makes repurposing nearly automatic.

**Example**

You record a 10-minute YouTube video on email marketing tips. From that single video, you create a LinkedIn carousel with the 5 key takeaways, a Twitter thread, an Instagram Reel with the best 60-second clip, and a Reddit text post expanding on one point. One idea, five pieces of content.

## **Why It Matters**

Creating original content for every platform is unsustainable. Repurposing lets you multiply your output without multiplying your effort. It also reinforces your message — most people need to see an idea multiple times before it sticks.
