# Carousel Post

A carousel post is a multi-image or multi-slide social media post that users swipe through one frame at a time.

Carousels are the closest thing to a cheat code on Instagram and LinkedIn. They get more engagement, more saves, and more reach than almost any other organic format.

The format is simple: multiple images or slides in a single post that users swipe through. Instagram allows up to 20 slides. LinkedIn supports document uploads that function as swipeable carousels. Facebook and Threads support the format too. Each slide advances one idea, creating a micro-presentation your audience navigates at their own pace.

## Why Carousels Perform So Well

Two reasons: dwell time and completion psychology.

Algorithms track how long people spend on your post. A carousel that takes 30 seconds to swipe through sends a much stronger signal than a single image someone glances at for two seconds. More time on post means the algorithm shows it to more people.

Then there's the completion effect. Once someone swipes to slide two, they feel invested. The urge to finish kicks in. Instagram data consistently shows carousel posts have higher save rates and share rates than other formats. On LinkedIn, document carousels generate significantly more impressions than text-only posts.

## Anatomy of a Good Carousel

**Slide 1: The hook.** This is the cover. It needs to stop the scroll. Use a bold statement, surprising stat, or clear promise. "7 things I'd do differently if I restarted my business" works because it creates curiosity.

**Middle slides: The value.** One idea per slide. Short text, clear visuals. Don't cram paragraphs onto a single frame. Think billboard, not blog post.

**Final slide: The CTA.** Tell people what to do: follow, share, save, comment. This is where you convert attention into action.

## Design Tips

Keep a consistent visual template. Your audience should recognize your carousels at a glance. Use readable fonts — at least 24pt for body text. High contrast between text and background. No more than 30-40 words per slide.

You don't need a designer. Canva templates work fine for most creators. What matters more than production quality is the clarity of each slide's message and the narrative flow from first to last.

**Example**

A LinkedIn carousel titled '7 Cold Email Mistakes That Kill Your Reply Rate' consistently outperforms a standard text post. Each slide covers one mistake with a quick fix. The swipe mechanic keeps people engaged longer, and the algorithm rewards that extended attention.

## **Why It Matters**

Carousels consistently outperform single-image posts on platforms that support them. The swipe interaction increases time spent on your post — a signal algorithms use to boost distribution. They're also ideal for educational content that's hard to fit in a single frame.
