# Boosted Post

A boosted post is an existing organic post that you pay a platform to show to more people than it would reach on its own.

Most social platforms offer the option to pay for additional reach. Boosting is the simplest way to do it — you pick a post that already exists on your profile, set a budget, choose a target audience, and the platform pushes it into more feeds.

## Boosting vs. Running Ads

The distinction matters. A boosted post starts as organic content. You wrote it for your followers, it performed well, and now you're paying to extend its life. A traditional ad is built from scratch inside an ads manager with more targeting options, placement controls, and optimization goals.

Boosting is simpler but less flexible. On Facebook and Instagram, you can boost directly from the post itself — no need to open Meta Ads Manager. LinkedIn works the same way. Twitter/X lets you promote tweets with a few clicks. TikTok's "Promote" button does the same thing.

The tradeoff is control. Boosted posts typically give you basic audience targeting (location, age, interests) and a handful of objectives like "more profile visits" or "more engagement." Full ad campaigns let you build custom audiences, run A/B tests, set bid strategies, and track conversions with pixels.

## When Boosting Makes Sense

Boost when you have a post that's already outperforming your average. The engagement signals tell you the content resonates — you're just paying to show it to more people who look like your current audience.

It's also useful for time-sensitive content. Event announcements, product launches, limited offers — anything where waiting for organic reach to build isn't an option.

Don't boost everything. If a post flopped organically, paying to show it to more people won't fix weak content. And don't boost just because a platform nudges you with a "Boost this post" notification. Make sure any boost fits your broader strategy rather than being a reactive decision.

**Start small.** Even $10-20 can give you useful data about how a wider audience responds to your content. Look at cost per engagement and cost per click before scaling up.

**Example**

You publish a Facebook post announcing a product launch. It gets decent engagement, so you boost it with $50 over three days. It reaches 12,000 people instead of the 800 who saw it organically.

## **Why It Matters**

Boosting is the fastest way to amplify content that's already working. Instead of guessing what a new audience wants, you're putting money behind something your existing followers already validated with their engagement.
