VS Code and Postpone

# Schedule Social Posts from VS Code with Postpone

The release is tagged, the changelog is written, and the announcement is the part that slips. Connect Postpone to VS Code and GitHub Copilot's agent mode can read the CHANGELOG in the repo, write the post for each platform and schedule the lot before you close the editor. VS Code signs you in with OAuth, so there is no key to copy.

[**Get Started for Free**](https://www.postpone.app/signup)

**VS Code**

Read CHANGELOG.md and schedule the release announcement for tomorrow at 9 AM

**Scheduled in Postpone**

Two posts are scheduled for tomorrow at 9:00 AM in your timezone, written from everything above the last release heading:

- X, a four post thread, one entry per post, ending on the upgrade command
- LinkedIn, the same release as one long post with the docs link

Nothing else is going out tomorrow, so they have the morning to themselves. Want a Bluesky version too?

mcp.json

```json
{
  "servers": {
    "postpone": {
      "type": "http",
      "url": "https://api.postpone.app/mcp"
    }
  }
}
```

## **VS Code Social Media MCP**

### One Entry in mcp.json, Shared With the Whole Repo

Add Postpone to VS Code once, commit the entry with the repo, and everyone on the project has the tools the next time they open it, each signing in as themselves. Copilot writes and schedules the announcement from the editor, so the [**developer workflow**](https://www.postpone.app/use-cases/developers) never leaves it, and it only ever reaches the accounts you have connected.

**VS Code**

Write a Bluesky post about the feature in the README and schedule it for Friday morning

**Scheduled in Postpone**

Scheduled for Friday at 9:00 AM on Bluesky, written from the Usage section of the README:

- "Scheduled reports now land in Slack. Pick a channel, pick a cadence, and the numbers turn up before standup does."

It is on the calendar, not published. Tell me to hold it as a draft and I will move it before Friday.

## **Schedule Posts in VS Code**

### The Changelog Becomes the Announcement

Point Copilot at the changelog, a merged pull request or the README section for the new feature, and the announcement comes out of it. Ask for the posts and it writes one for each platform in its own shape and schedules them at the times you name, or holds them as drafts until you have read them.

**VS Code**

What was our top post on X in the last two weeks?

**Checked with Postpone**

The release thread, by a distance. Ranked by impressions across the last two weeks:

- The release thread on the Slack reports, 21,400 impressions and 162 reposts
- The changelog one liner on the new CLI flag, 5,800 impressions and 37 reposts
- The hiring post, 3,100 impressions and 12 reposts

The thread is the shape that works for this account. Want the next release written as one and put on the calendar?

## **Social Analytics in VS Code**

### Know What Worked From the Chat View

Copilot can read what you published, how each post performed and how every account's following has moved, so "did the release land" is a question you ask in VS Code rather than a dashboard you go and find. The next announcement can then be written in the shape of the ones that worked.

## Handle Your Project's Social Posts From VS Code

Add Postpone to the workspace and Copilot's agent mode can schedule, update and report on posts for anyone working on the project.

- ### Announce a New Release

  Ask agent mode to announce the version you just tagged. It writes a post for each platform and schedules them, or saves drafts for a maintainer to review.
- ### Reschedule When a Release Slips

  Copilot can list what is scheduled, edit the wording, push a date back or remove a post, all from the chat where you found out about the delay.
- ### Write Posts From Your Docs

  Give Copilot a link to a blog post, an issue or your release notes and it writes posts from what the page actually says.
- ### Find Screenshots You Have Not Posted

  Copilot can search the Content Library by label or file type and pick only what has never been posted, so two contributors do not share the same screenshot.
- ### See Which Announcements Landed

  Ask how your posts did and Copilot reads back the engagement for each one, plus the totals, right beside your code.
- ### Track Your Follower Growth

  Get follower history for each connected account on request, so you can see whether the project's accounts are growing.

## Post to Eleven Platforms From VS Code

The MCP server schedules to eleven platforms from the same connected accounts, and reads the calendar and the numbers for every one of them.

## Connect Postpone to VS Code in Three Steps

Connect VS Code once and it can schedule, move and report on your posts.

1. 1 ### Add the Postpone server

   Paste the configuration above to point VS Code at Postpone's MCP server, https://api.postpone.app/mcp, and commit it to share the connection with everyone on the repository.
2. 2 ### Sign in to Postpone

   VS Code signs in with OAuth rather than an API key, so you approve access in the browser once and every collaborator signs in as themselves.
3. 3 ### Ask Copilot for something

   "What goes out this week?" is a good first question: it only reads, so it proves the connection before Copilot writes anything. Then ask for a post.

Questions About Postpone and VS Code

How VS Code connects, what Copilot can and cannot do, and what it costs.

Still have questions? Check out our help center for answers to most of your questions, or reach out to our support team.

[**Visit the Help Center **](https://help.postpone.app/) [**Contact us **](https://www.postpone.app/contact)

### **How do I add Postpone to VS Code?**

You run MCP: Add Server from the Command Palette, choose HTTP, enter https://api.postpone.app/mcp, name the server postpone and pick Workspace or Global. VS Code opens a browser window to sign in to Postpone with OAuth the first time the server starts. Committing the same entry in a .vscode/mcp.json file gives every collaborator on the repository the tool, each signing in as themselves.

[**Set up VS Code **](https://www.postpone.app/settings/mcp/vscode)

### **Can GitHub Copilot write a release post from my repository?**

Yes, in agent mode Copilot reads the files you point it at, such as a CHANGELOG, a merged pull request or release notes, drafts a post for each platform and schedules them through Postpone. Anything that creates or deletes a post comes with an instruction telling the client to show you the exact content first, so nothing is queued that you have not read.

[**Postpone for AI agents **](https://www.postpone.app/use-cases/agents)

### **Is the VS Code integration different from the Cursor one?**

Both editors connect to the same Postpone MCP server and get the same tools. The difference is how they sign in: VS Code runs the OAuth flow itself, while Cursor's configuration usually carries a Postpone API key as a Bearer token. Everything else, from scheduling to reporting, is identical.

[**The Cursor integration **](https://www.postpone.app/integrations/cursor)

### **What can Copilot do with my Postpone account?**

Copilot can schedule posts and drafts to any connected platform, read and change your calendar, search your content library including media you have never used, report on what published and how it performed, and track follower growth per account. It cannot connect a social account, reply to comments or messages, or delete a post that has already gone out.

[**What an agent can do **](https://www.postpone.app/use-cases/agents)

### **Can I revoke VS Code's access to Postpone later?**

Yes, at any time and without touching anything else. The OAuth connection is listed in Postpone under Settings, then API, on the Authorized Apps tab, and revoking it there stops Copilot on its next request. Your social accounts, scheduled posts and content library are unaffected, because VS Code never held those connections in the first place.

[**Read the MCP docs **](https://developers.postpone.app/getting-started/ai-mcp)

### **Does connecting VS Code to Postpone cost extra?**

No, MCP access costs nothing on top of your Postpone plan. It comes with every paid plan and the free trial of any of them, though not the free plan, and needs a confirmed email address, whether you sign in with OAuth or a key.
