n8n and Postpone

# Schedule Social Posts from n8n Workflows with Postpone

n8n connects Postpone to the hundreds of apps your workflows already touch. Add an MCP Client node, point it at the Postpone MCP server with an API key, and a new blog post, a row in a sheet or a webhook from anywhere can end in a scheduled post, with no custom code and nothing to host but n8n itself.

New item in the blog feed: write a post for X, LinkedIn and Threads and schedule them across the next two days

**Scheduled in Postpone**

Three posts are scheduled from "Why we moved the reports into Slack", spread across the next two days:

- Tuesday 9:00 AM on X, a two post thread ending on the link
- Tuesday 11:30 AM on LinkedIn, the long version with the pull quote
- Wednesday 8:00 AM on Threads, the one line version

The next feed item will run through the same node. Add a Filter step before it if only some posts should go out.

### One Node, and the Postpone Tools Are in the Workflow

Drop Postpone into an n8n workflow and the [**automation you already run**](https://www.postpone.app/use-cases/agents) can write, schedule and report on your social posts too, on your own infrastructure if that is where it lives. It reaches only the accounts you have connected in Postpone, and everything it schedules shows up there as if you had done it.

New row in the launches sheet: schedule its post to X and Bluesky at the time in the row

**Scheduled in Postpone**

Two posts are scheduled for Thursday at 10:00 AM in your timezone, the time the row names:

- X, "Scheduled reports are live. Pick a channel, pick a cadence, done." with the launch image from the row
- Bluesky, the same text with the same image

Both are on the calendar and can be moved from Postpone or from another workflow before Thursday.

### Any Trigger Ends in a Scheduled Post

A feed item, a row in a sheet, a form submission or a webhook from your own product goes in one end of the workflow, and a post for each platform comes out the other, written in that platform's shape and scheduled at the time you choose. Ask for drafts instead and nothing publishes until a person has read it.

**n8n**

Return last week's post metrics for every account

**Checked with Postpone**

Last week you published 9 posts across three accounts, and the totals by account are:

- X, 4 posts, 18,600 impressions and 142 reposts
- LinkedIn, 3 posts, 9,200 impressions and 118 reactions
- Threads, 2 posts, 4,100 views and 36 likes

The best post on every account was the one written from the blog feed. Pass this output to a Slack node and the Monday recap sends itself.

## **Social Analytics in n8n**

### The Weekly Numbers, Sent Wherever the Next Node Points

n8n can read what you published, how each post performed and how every account's following has moved, so the Monday recap builds itself and lands in Slack, an email or a sheet, wherever the next node points. Because it can also schedule, more posts like the best ones can go onto the calendar in the same run.

## n8n Handles the Posting Step With Nobody Watching

Six things the Postpone step can be in a canvas: what it takes from the node before it, and what it leaves for the node after.

- ### The Step That Schedules

Whatever the branch above produced becomes a scheduled post on the accounts it names, or a draft for a person to release. One run can put a whole week on the calendar, and the result travels on down the canvas.
- ### A URL Arrives, a Post Leaves

A feed item, a release page, an address pulled out of a record: it goes in one side, the page is read, and a post written for each platform comes out the other, scheduled. Nobody types anything.
- ### A Step That Edits the Calendar

A workflow can list what is scheduled and act on it: push a launch week back when the date upstream changes, rewrite a post whose copy came from a record that has since moved, or clear a slot.
- ### Pick Media, Never the Same Twice

Query the Content Library by name, type or label, or narrow it to files that have never been posted, and the run attaches one. An unattended queue keeps finding something it has not used yet.
- ### Numbers Out, Into the Next Node

Per-post engagement and account totals come back as data the rest of the canvas can work with: a branch that fires on a threshold, a record written back, a digest assembled by the node after it.
- ### Growth on a Timer

Put the follower numbers on a schedule of their own. A run reads every connected account's following, compares it with the run before, and hands the difference to whatever the workflow points at next.

## Post to Eleven Platforms From n8n

The MCP server schedules to eleven platforms from the same connected accounts, and reads the calendar and the numbers for every one of them.

## Connect Postpone to n8n in Three Steps

Connect n8n once and it can schedule, move and report on your posts.

1. 1 ### Create an API key

Your key comes from Postpone's own API settings. Create one and copy it somewhere safe, because it is only shown once.
2. 2 ### Add the Postpone server

Point an MCP Client node at https://api.postpone.app/mcp with that key, and the workflow can schedule posts, read the calendar and report on what published.
3. 3 ### Pick tools and test it

Choose the Postpone tools the workflow may use, then list your connected accounts first: that only reads, so it proves the connection before anything is scheduled.

Questions About Postpone and n8n

How the node connects, what a workflow can and cannot do, and what it costs.

### **How does Postpone work with n8n?**

n8n reaches Postpone through the MCP server at https://api.postpone.app/mcp, so a workflow can schedule posts, read the calendar and report on what published as part of a larger pipeline. Because n8n can be self-hosted, this is the option teams pick when the automation itself has to run on their own infrastructure.

[**Postpone for AI agents **](https://www.postpone.app/use-cases/agents)

### **Is n8n a better fit than Zapier for Postpone?**

It depends on where the workflow has to run and how much branching it does. n8n is self-hostable and suits engineering teams comfortable maintaining it; Zapier is hosted, needs nobody to run it, and reaches more consumer apps out of the box. Both end in the same place, which is a scheduled post in Postpone.

[**Postpone on Zapier **](https://www.postpone.app/integrations/zapier)

### **Do I need an API key for n8n, or does OAuth work?**

The MCP Client node connects to Postpone with a personal API key sent as a bearer token, which is what the setup above configures. A key bypasses scope checks and can read and write everything, so give it an expiry when you create it and keep it in an n8n credential rather than in the workflow itself. OAuth is the sign-in a hosted chat client uses; a workflow that runs unattended has nobody to approve the pop-up.

[**The Postpone API **](https://www.postpone.app/features/social-media-api)

### **What can an n8n workflow do with my Postpone account?**

An n8n workflow can schedule posts and drafts to any connected platform, read and change your calendar, search your content library including media you have never used, report on what published and how it performed, and track follower growth per account. It cannot connect a social account, reply to comments or messages, or delete a post that has already gone out.

[**What an agent can do **](https://www.postpone.app/use-cases/agents)

### **Can I limit which Postpone tools a workflow can use?**

Yes, the MCP Client node in n8n lists the tools the Postpone server offers and lets you choose which ones the workflow may use, so a reporting workflow can be built with no way to schedule anything.

[**Read the MCP docs **](https://developers.postpone.app/getting-started/ai-mcp)

### **Does connecting n8n to Postpone cost extra?**

No, MCP access costs nothing on top of your Postpone plan. It comes with every paid plan and the free trial of any of them, though not the free plan, and needs a confirmed email address.
