GitHub and Postpone

# Auto-Share GitHub Releases to Social Media with Postpone

Postpone watches a repository's releases and turns every new one into scheduled posts on X, LinkedIn, Bluesky, Mastodon and more. It is built for maintainers and developer-tools teams who want each release announced where their users are, without anyone leaving the terminal to do it.

## **Auto-Share GitHub Releases**

### Announce Every Release Without Leaving the Repo

Paste a public repository's address and every GitHub release shows up in Postpone on its own, with its title, link and publish date ready to post. No app to install, no webhook to configure, no token to keep alive. Post one yourself, or hand the whole job to an [**automation**](https://www.postpone.app/features/social-media-automation) and let each release announce itself.

## **Social Post Templates for GitHub**

### Write the Announcement Once and Let Every Release Fill It In

Write the announcement once, the way you would write it yourself, and every new GitHub release fills it in with its own title, link and notes. Each platform gets its own version, a thread that walks through the changes here and a short note there, and a live preview shows what will go out before you save.

## **GitHub Social Media Automation**

### Decide Which Releases Post on Their Own

Choose how much each GitHub release does on its own: wait as a draft, so a patch bump and a launch get different posts, go out on a delay, or publish as soon as Postpone sees it. Pause it during a release freeze, and the run history shows any post that did not go out, and why.

## Everything Postpone Does With a New Release

Six things Postpone can do with a new release, all from the feed it already reads.

- ### One Release, a Post for Every Platform

A single automation holds several actions, each aimed at one account with its own template. The same release can read as a changelog thread on X, a summary on LinkedIn and a one-liner on Bluesky, all from the same run.
- ### Approve the Big Ones, Skip the Patches

Set every action to draft and each release waits in Drafts. Publish the feature launch, delete the patch bump, and nothing goes out that a maintainer did not read first.
- ### Timing That Suits Each Platform

Give each action its own delay. Publish to Bluesky as the release lands, wait until the next morning for LinkedIn and hold X for the afternoon, all from one release and one automation.
- ### A Reddit Post With the Right Title

A Reddit action carries its own title, subreddit and flair, because a release tag is not a headline.
- ### Let the AI Write the Post From the Release Notes

Paste a release's link into Postpone's AI writer and it reads the notes and drafts a post or a whole thread from them, in the tone you have set for that platform.
- ### See How Each Post Performs on Social

Every post an automation publishes shows up in analytics like any other, so you can compare releases by likes, replies and impressions and see which platform your users are actually on.

## Seven Platforms From One Repository

An automation schedules posts to these platforms on its own.

- [**LinkedIn**Profiles and Pages](https://www.postpone.app/platforms/linkedin-scheduler)
- [**Bluesky**Posts and threads](https://www.postpone.app/platforms/bluesky-post-scheduler)
- [**Threads**Posts and threads](https://www.postpone.app/platforms/threads-scheduler)
- [**Mastodon**Posts and threads](https://www.postpone.app/platforms/mastodon-post-scheduler)
- [**Facebook**Pages](https://www.postpone.app/platforms/facebook-post-scheduler)

Need Instagram, TikTok or YouTube Shorts as well, or a post from your CI pipeline? The [**Zapier integration**](https://www.postpone.app/integrations/zapier) schedules to those from any trigger, and the [**Postpone API**](https://www.postpone.app/features/social-media-api) reaches all twelve platforms from a step in your build.

## Connect a GitHub Repository to Postpone in Three Steps

Set it up once and every release you ship promotes itself.

1. 1 ### Add the repository as a feed

Point Postpone at a public repository and it watches for new releases, with nothing installed in the repository and no token stored.
2. 2 ### Build the automation

Write one template per platform from the release's title, link and notes, then choose whether each post drafts, schedules itself or publishes right away.
3. 3 ### Ship your next release

Postpone spots the new release and fills your template, so every version you ship is announced as a draft, a scheduled post or one published on the spot.

Questions About Postpone and GitHub

How Postpone follows a repository, what it does with each release, and where the posts land.

### **Can Postpone post automatically when I ship a GitHub release?**

Yes, that is the main thing this integration is for. Postpone watches a repository's releases as a feed, and an automation turns each new one into posts on X, LinkedIn, Bluesky, Threads, Mastodon, Facebook or Reddit, filling your template from the release's title, its link and its notes.

Nothing is installed in the repository and no token is stored.

[**How automations work **](https://www.postpone.app/features/social-media-automation)

### **Do I have to announce every release, or can I approve them first?**

You can approve them first. An automation action set to draft leaves each generated post in your Drafts list and publishes nothing until you say so, which is the setting most teams want for releases, where a patch bump and a feature launch deserve different treatment.

[**The three action types **](https://help.postpone.app/scheduling/automation/actions)

### **Does this work with private repositories?**

No, Postpone reads the public releases feed GitHub publishes for a repository, so the repository has to be public. For a private project, the Postpone API can schedule the announcement from a step in your release pipeline instead.

[**The Postpone API **](https://www.postpone.app/features/social-media-api)

### **Is this different from calling the Postpone API from CI?**

Yes, and both are available. The feed route needs no code and reacts to releases you already publish.

The GraphQL API is the other option: a step in your pipeline can schedule a post at the same moment it tags a build, reaching all twelve platforms rather than the seven automations cover.

[**Postpone for developers **](https://www.postpone.app/use-cases/developers)

### **How long after I publish a release does the post go out?**

Postpone checks the releases feed on a schedule rather than the instant you publish, so there is a short delay before the automation runs. Feeds are polled, not pushed.

After that it depends on the action. A submitted post publishes as soon as the run starts, and a scheduled post waits for the delay you set, counted from that moment.

[**Automation troubleshooting **](https://help.postpone.app/scheduling/automation/troubleshooting)

### **Which platforms can a GitHub automation post to?**

Seven: X, LinkedIn, Bluesky, Threads, Mastodon, Facebook and Reddit. Instagram, TikTok, YouTube Shorts, Pinterest and Tumblr are not available to automations. The Zapier integration reaches the first three of those and the Postpone API reaches all twelve.
