TL;DR

Postpone's Reddit API access is ending on November 30, 2025. As a result, automatic posting to Reddit and a few other API-dependent features will no longer be available. Instead, all Reddit posts will use our notification-based native posting feature, which significantly reduces shadowban risk and increases post engagement on Reddit.

What's Happening

For six years, Postpone has helped you schedule Reddit posts using Reddit's official API—the connection that lets apps like Postpone post directly to Reddit on your behalf.

Reddit is ending our API access on November 30, 2025. In conversations with Reddit, they've made it clear they want to prioritize organic posting and native engagement over third-party automation.

Starting December 1st, all Reddit posts will use notification-based posting. You'll create and schedule posts as always, then receive a mobile notification when it's time to post. Tap through to Reddit's mobile app and publish—the full process takes about 20 seconds.

Some API-dependent features will also be discontinued (details below).

Reddit's Platform Evolution

Reddit now prioritizes organic content posted through their native apps and website over third-party automation. As of last week, Reddit shut down self-serve API access entirely, which means developers can no longer create API keys on their own. Every application now requires explicit approval from Reddit.

Over the past 18 months, Reddit's systems have increasingly flagged API-posted content. What started as occasional post filtering has progressed to account-level restrictions. We've tracked posts being removed, engagement throttled, and in some cases, account shadowbans.

Reddit's policy shifts align with what our data has been showing: native posting consistently outperforms API posting, even before considering the safety risks.

The Native Posting Advantage

We analyzed over 100,000 posts published through Postpone in 2025 to better understand what performs best on Reddit. This includes both API posts and native posts using our Notification Posting feature. Here's what we found:

Native posts receive approximately 2x more upvotes than API posts. Reddit's algorithm surfaces native content more to users.

Native posts are flagged as spam 8x less frequently than API posts. Spam flags can lead to post removals and account-level restrictions.

Why the difference?

Reddit's algorithm explicitly prioritizes native activity. When you post through their official app, Reddit sees authentic user behavior. When an API posts on your behalf, Reddit's systems treat it as automation, even when it's technically authorized.

The Notification Posting Workflow

Nothing changes in how you plan and schedule. The only difference is publishing:

  1. Create and schedule your posts in Postpone
  2. Get a mobile notification when it's time to post
  3. Tap to open Postpone, then tap to open Reddit's app
  4. Tap Submit

Total time: ~20 seconds. Your posts go live as native Reddit content with full algorithm support and zero enforcement risk. Here's the full flow:

What Stays the Same

Postpone remains your complete Reddit planning and intelligence platform. Every feature that helps you create better content, avoid mistakes, and understand performance stays exactly the same:

Planning & Intelligence:

Schedule posts weeks ahead, bulk import, AI Reddit title and post creator, best-time-to-post recommendations, Fresh Links to avoid reposts, post templates, default subreddit settings, and multi-platform scheduling across 12 social platforms (Reddit, Twitter, Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn, Facebook, YouTube, Pinterest, Bluesky, Threads, Tumblr, and Mastodon).

Safety & Organization:

Repost protection, subreddit frequency warnings, subreddit requirements tracking, Content Library, Watermark Manager, image editing, and Subreddit Manager.

Performance & Insights:

Post analytics, tags and campaigns, top subreddit and content identification, and Zapier & API integration.

Everything that makes Postpone valuable for planning, creating, and analyzing your Reddit content remains. The only change is how posts go live.

What Changes

Starting December 1st, Reddit posts will publish through notification-based posting instead of automatic API posting. You'll receive a mobile notification when it's time to post, then publish manually in Reddit's app.

These API-dependent features will also be discontinued:

  • Reddit inbox features
  • Profile crossposting and post auto-removal
  • Reddit profile editing and follower tracking
  • Syncing subscribed subreddits to Subreddit Manager

Here’s a timeline of the changes:

Now: Download the Postpone mobile app (iOS / Android) and enable notifications to ensure uninterrupted posting.

December 1, 2025: All posts scheduled for December 1st or later will automatically convert to notification posts. You'll receive mobile notifications when it's time to post, with everything ready to go.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I still schedule posts weeks or months in advance? Yes. You can schedule as far ahead as you want. When the scheduled time arrives, you'll get a notification to post it manually. All your planning workflows stay exactly the same.

What happens to my existing scheduled Reddit posts? Any posts scheduled for December 1st or later will automatically convert to notification posts. You don't need to do anything—they'll just arrive as notifications instead of posting automatically. Just make sure you've downloaded the Postpone mobile app and turned on notifications before December 1st.

Will notification posting work for all post types? Yes—text, link, image, video, and gallery posts all work with notification posting. You'll actually be able to post videos to more subreddits than you could with API posting.

What about other Reddit schedulers? Other API-based schedulers will likely face the same restrictions over time. How and when they respond to Reddit's changes is up to them. What we can tell you is that Postpone built notification posting infrastructure specifically for this scenario, ensuring continuity for our users regardless of API access.

Didn't Postpone previously say API posting was safe? Yes, and it was. Postpone was officially approved by Reddit's security team in both 2021 and 2023. At that time, API posting was supported by Reddit and carried no additional risk. Reddit's platform priorities and enforcement have shifted dramatically since then, particularly over the past 18 months. That's why we built notification posting earlier this year—we saw these trends developing and wanted to ensure continuity for our users.

What if this change doesn't work for my workflow? We understand this is a significant change. We'd love to discuss your specific situation and see if we can make notification posting work for you. Reach out to us at hello@postpone.app or through the support chat in your account.
